Adrián: Tradition and Vision

Where the Stage Meets the Canvas

For Adrián Mas, art is not an isolated discipline but a constant dialogue between acting, design, and color. Born in Cuba in early 70s, Adrián’s journey began at the prestigious National School of Art (ENA), where he graduated as a theatrical director and instructor. It was within those halls, surrounded by playwrights and visual artists, that he discovered his passion for the stage could be translated into shapes and textures through set design.

With a career spanning over 25 years across film, television, and theater, Adrián brings a unique dramatic sensibility to his fine art. His work serves as a bridge between tradition and the avant-garde. He draws inspiration from the great Cuban masters: the linear structure of Amelia Peláez, the magic of Portocarrero, and the mysticism of Wifredo Lam.

However, his most intimate influence comes from the master Héctor Cata, from whom he inherited not only refined color techniques but a familial bond that transformed his understanding of art.

Today, working from his studio in Miami, Adrián creates pieces that are an explosion of Caribbean light. His paintings, crafted using a mixed technique of acrylic and oil, reclaim the transparency of Havana’s stained-glass windows and the vibrant joy that defines the Cuban spirit. Through cubism and figurative art, Adrián Mas invites us into a world where every brushstroke tells a story and every color is a celebration of life and memory.
